Historical Note

   Dick Connor was a sportswriter for the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News who covered American and international sports news for over 30 years. His articles covered all major professional sports including basketball, baseball, hockey, and football but he also covered college events, high school sports, and little league games. Connor began his career writing for the Rocky Mountain News in 1961, then moved to the Denver Post in 1965 where he would cover the Denver Broncos for ten years. In 1982 Connor moved back to working with the Rocky Mountain News where he worked for 6 more years until he returned to the Denver Post in 1988. He would remain writing for the Denver Post until he passed way in 1992.

   Dick Connor was an award-winning sportswriter who was selected as the Colorado Sports Writer of the Year twenty-two times. He won many other awards including the Dick McCann Memorial Award for long and distinguished reporting on professional football and the Lowell Thomas Journalist of the Year Award in 1987. He was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

   In 1990, Dick Connor was diagnosed with cancer. Throughout his battle he wrote openly and honestly about his condition until his death in 1992.
