Interlibrary Loan

Regis University Library – Resource Sharing Services

Prospector

Prospector is our regional borrowing and lending group and includes major academic and public libraries in Colorado as well as the University of Wyoming.  Use this service to request print books, CDs, DVDs, and more!  To view your Prospector requests (and regular Regis loans), please visit your library account.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

SERVICE UPDATE: Due to increased demand from database cancellations and staff turnover, there may be delays for Interlibrary Loan requests at this time. Patrons are encouraged to use the Research Help service to discuss with a librarian alternate options if available.

If something is not available locally, use ILL to request items from around the world!  This service can be used to request books, media, articles, and book chapters.   ILL requests are made through ILLiad, the library’s interlibrary loan management system.

Delivery of Items

For current students, faculty, and staff within a 35 mile radius of any Regis University campus, physical items can be picked up at your campus of choice.  For the northwest Denver campus, items will be held at the library’s circulation desk for 10 days.   For the Thornton campus, items can be picked up at the front desk.  Please allow up to 7 days for delivery to the Thornton campus.

For current students, faculty, and staff further than 35 miles from any Regis campus, the library will mail Regis and interlibrary loan items to a home or work address.  The library will pay for shipping to the address. Users are responsible for return shipping costs. Only ILL and Regis items will be mailed. Prospector items must be picked up at a Regis campus location.

All electronic requests (articles, book chapters, and streaming media) will be delivered electronically to the email provided in your ILL account.

For help with these services, please contact interlib@regis.edu.

User Responsibilities

User Responsibilities

Eligibility for Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services is dependent upon good standing across all library accounts.   Overdue items or fines/fees for any library services will result in a temporary block on your ILL, Prospector, and local account.  This block can be resolved by returning materials and/or paying any fines and fees.

Users are responsible for all materials on their account and may be charged the cost of replacement or repair for lost or damaged items. For students, charges will be added to your student account.  For faculty and staff, the library will invoice you the amount charged by the lending library.  Non-payment may result in the loss of library privileges.  Questions regarding replacement or repair costs should be directed to the Access Services Librarian.

Interlibrary loans are not a substitute for long-term access to materials.  As such, the library will request each item only once per term, per patron. Here a "term" is defined as a 16-week semester, of which there are three in an academic year (Fall, Spring, and Summer).  We encourage patrons to take notes while they have the material in their possession to ensure they have all the information they need before returning items.

Users are expected to provide complete citations for each request.  Library staff may cancel requests for which we cannot verify the citation.

The library complies with United States copyright law regarding physical and electronic requests.

Eligible Users

Access to Dayton Memorial Library resource-sharing services is available to currently enrolled students and currently employed faculty and staff. These services include the use of Prospector and ILLiad (the library’s interlibrary loan services platform).  These services are provided free of charge to students, faculty, and staff.

Alumni, inactive students, and community members are not eligible for these services. We encourage these groups to use their public library for resource-sharing services.

Loan Limits

Faculty and Staff

  • Prospector – 70 items

  • ILL (ILLiad) - no limit

Students

  • Prospector – 70 items

  • ILL (ILLiad) - 30 active print requests*

*Active print requests refer to physical items (books, media, etc.).  Book chapter and article requests are not limited.  A request is considered active once submitted to Dayton Memorial Library and remains active until the item is received by the lending library upon return, which could be several days after its return to Dayton Memorial Library.

Emeritus Faculty

Faculty awarded Emeritus status by their department or college are entitled to the same library privileges as current ranked and affiliate faculty members.

Cost Limits

Regis University Library subsidizes most fees charged by lending libraries; however, limits are placed to conserve library resources and ensure access to this service for all eligible users.  These limits are:

  • Graduate and Doctoral Students - $75 per term

  • Faculty and Staff - $100 per term

Undergraduate students are only eligible for no-cost requests.  Alumni and community borrowers are encouraged to use their local public library.

We always attempt to fill requests from free lenders first.  If a patron exceeds the limits outlined above, they will have the option to cover the additional cost themselves.  Library staff will always ask before filling requests in which the patron may incur costs that cannot be covered by the library.
