Steps for getting started

Writing and publishing are processes which take time and considerable effort. Spend some time on the front end getting organized and review your needs.

1. Make a search plan: Use clinical frameworks or worksheets as needed to construct your research statement, plan synonyms and create structured searches.

2. Keep track of where and what you search. Your search terms and search strings can end up being part of your research output, make sure to document and save them.

3. Make database folders, author profiles, and use citation management software to track your findings.

4. Go back to basics! Boolean searching, subject terms, and information types. This is the time to get to know your databases!
