How to do Library Research

This guide was co-created by the Research & Instruction Department and the Research & Instruction Librarian Intern, Allyson Turner.

Introduction

Welcome to the Regis University guide about how to do library research.

Welcome! This guide is designed to help students learn how to do college-level library research during any point in their academic journey. Whether you are new to college, in the middle of your academic career, or returning to college after many years, this guide can help students learn how to:

  • determine the initial scope of the task required to meet their information needs, and match their information needs and search strategies to appropriate search tools.
  • use research tools and indicators of authority to determine the credibility of sources, and give credit to the original ideas of others through proper attribution and citation.
  • organize information in meaningful ways, synthesize ideas gathered from multiple sources, and draw reasonable conclusions based on the analysis and interpretation of information.

This guide is designed to reflect the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
