Regis University Library - Departments

Key Services

The Research and Instruction Services Department has two primary responsibilities: providing research assistance and customized library instruction for all five colleges of Regis University.

Research assistance includes:

  • locating facts
  • developing and refining research strategies
  • focusing topics
  • selecting appropriate databases or other resources
  • interpreting research results
  • understanding and using citation systems

This assistance is provided in a variety of formats: in person at the library's research help desk, by telephone, via e-mail, and through the library's 24x7 chat reference service.  Private research consultations lasting from 30 minutes to an hour or more are provided for larger research projects and are available to all Regis students, staff, and faculty.

The department is the primary provider of library instruction for all five colleges, at all campuses, and in online environments.  Library instruction sessions:

  • are integrated into targeted courses as one-time or multiple classes that last from 45 minutes to two hours
  • teach students how to navigate library resources and request materials through library services
  • demonstrate effective search strategies
  • illustrate the critical evaluation of information
  • often include hands-on time so that students may practice and develop these research skills

Additional responsibilities include the selection of library materials for accounting, anthropology, business, Catholic studies, criminology, economics, fine arts, health care ethics, health services administration, history, Jesuitica, law, management, marketing, nonprofit management, modern and classical languages, nursing, peace and justice, pharmacy, physical therapy, philosophy, politics, sociology, women's & gender studies, and the library's reference collection.  This includes maintenance of the associated research guides for each subject in the library's LibGuides system.  The department also serves the local community by providing access to print & online resources along with basic research assistance & instruction.

Services to the University

Members of the Research and Instruction Services Department assist with the design and execution of faculty research projects and provide on-demand research assistance for other members of the Regis community via the reference desk.  We serve on the CC&IS Academic Council, CPS Academic Council, CoBE Academic Council, RHCHP Academic Council, Regis College Core & Curriculum Committee, Graduate Scholarship Committee, Institutional Review Board, and have served on multiple faculty search committees.
